Pope Calls on Pilgrims to Remember the Martyred Ukrainian People and Pray for Ukrainian Children and Adolescents
In an emotional address to a group of pilgrims at the Vatican, Pope Francis urged them not to forget the suffering of the Ukrainian people and to pray for the country’s children and adolescents. The Pope’s words came in the midst of ongoing political and social turmoil in Ukraine, where the people have endured years of conflict and hardship.
The Pope began his address by acknowledging the difficult situation in Ukraine, saying, «My dear brothers and sisters, I am aware of the struggles and challenges facing the Ukrainian people. I know that many of you have suffered greatly and continue to face uncertainty and hardship. But I want to remind you that you are not alone. The whole world is watching and praying for you.»
He went on to speak about the rich history and strong faith of the Ukrainian people, saying, «The Ukrainian people have a long and proud history, marked by a deep faith and unwavering resilience. Despite the trials and tribulations that you have faced, you have remained steadfast in your devotion to God and your love for your country.»
The Pope then turned his attention to the children and adolescents of Ukraine, who he said are the future of the country. He expressed his concern for their well-being and called on the pilgrims to pray for them. «We must not forget the youngest and most vulnerable members of society, the children and adolescents of Ukraine. They are the future of your country and they need our prayers and support. Let us pray that they may grow up in a peaceful and prosperous Ukraine.»
The Pope also spoke about the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation in the face of conflict and division. He said, «In times of turmoil and strife, it is easy to become consumed by anger and bitterness. But I urge you to remember the teachings of Jesus and to forgive those who have wronged you. Only through forgiveness and reconciliation can true healing and peace be achieved.»
The Pope’s words were met with a powerful response from the pilgrims, who were visibly moved by his message. Many of them shared their personal stories of hardship and expressed their gratitude for the Pope’s words of comfort and encouragement.
One pilgrim, Maria Ivanovna, said, «I have been through so much in my life, but hearing the Pope’s words today gave me hope and strength. It’s important for us to remember that we are not alone and that God is always with us, even in our darkest moments.»
Another pilgrim, Andriy Petrov, added, «As a father, I am deeply concerned for the future of my children and all the children of Ukraine. I am grateful to the Pope for reminding us to pray for them and to never lose hope for a better tomorrow.»
The Pope concluded his address with a prayer for peace and unity in Ukraine, saying, «Let us pray for an end to the conflict and division in Ukraine. May God’s love and mercy heal the wounds of the past and guide us towards a brighter future, where all Ukrainians can live in harmony and prosperity.»
As the pilgrims left the Vatican, they were filled with a renewed sense of hope and determination to continue praying for their country and its people. The Pope’s words had reminded them of the power of faith and the importance of standing in solidarity with those who are suffering. With their hearts full of love and compassion, they vowed to never forget the martyred Ukrainian people and to always pray for the well-being of the country’s children and adolescents.
